From Oscar Wilde to Captain Scott, Bram Stoker and Agatha Christie, the secret lives of some of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s (RBKC) most famous residents have been brought to life following the launch of a new free Bike Tours App which can be accessed from bikeminded.org.
This App features two tours mirroring Blue Plaque cycling tours which took place in the borough last weekend. There is a cycling tour aimed at families which reveals the stories behind some local Blue Plaques, such as those dedicated to Kenneth Grahame, author of Wind in the Willows, and Sir Edward Henry, a super-sleuth responsible for introducing police dogs to the Met.
There is also an adult tour which follows a route that visits the Blue Plaques of Oscar Wilde, bohemian artist Augustus John, Mark Twain and George Eliot among others.
The Blue Plaque Tour App is now available for anyone who wants to do these tours on two wheels at their leisure. Each tour lasts approximately two hours.
