Forget the ready to wear shows at the BFC tents because today (5 September) kicks off Wool Week running until 11 September. After seeing the wool industry face enormous challenges, The Prince of Wales created the campaign in 2008. So, whether you prefer a chunky knit or a light cardigan, celebrate the use of yarn in fashion.
After sheep numbers began declining across the world and farmers continued to be paid less than the upkeep and cost of the farms, something had to be done. Since wool is one of the most sustainable fibers, not to mention environmentally friendly, it’s not surprising such a monumental figure in the UK took on the role to save the modern world of wool.
After partnering with big British heritage names such as Burberry, Jaeger and Hackett, a Wool Week emerged and there are even more events in its second year. New names such as Mark Fast and Craig Lawrence are also adding less traditional touches to the world that is wool.
Since Condé Nast's managing director Nicholas Coleridge hopped on board, the importance to raise awareness about the surrounding problems Britain’s oldest textile industry faces, wool and knitting have become extremely in fashion.
Wool Modern, beginning Wednesday, will showcase Thierry Mugler, YSL and Sonia Rykiel. Archives parading designs alongside contemporary work by Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and David Koma will be held at La Galleria in London.

With the weather temps being less than stellar as this September starts, it is only fitting the fashionistas celebrate Wool Week; not only for the sake of style, but for the good cause the Campaign for Wool is based upon.
